Retail banking is one of the fastest growing banking activities. Nevertheless, the proportion of the domestic population using banking services is barely 5% of the total population of the Kyrgyz Republic, due in part to the underdeveloped infrastructure and poor supply of those banking products and services, which would meet the population’s particular needs. At the end of 2004 the Board of Directors approved a retail strategy in order to meet retail customers' needs for quality banking products at reasonable prices.
The bank will develop a network of branches and small outlets through which retail products will be distributed and delivered to customers. To successfully implement this retail strategy, KfW, a co-founder of the Bank, is providing technical assistance to KICB. The assistance includes international consultants to train KICB staff and help develop the retail banking operation.
